Learn How to Support Individuals with Autism

With autism being a complex disorder, this Level 3 course will enable you to develop a solid understanding of the symptoms and how living with autism can affect social and emotional development.

By equipping yourself with this knowledge, you will be best placed to provide support to individuals living with autism, be it in a professional or personal setting.

The Level 3 Certificate in Understanding Autism (RQF) is delivered by our partners London South East Colleges. On completion of your course you will be awarded the Level 3 Certificate in Understanding Autism (RQF), the Ofqual qualification number for this course is 603/3203/7.




The free online course is split into manageable units

Unit 1: Understand the diagnosis and management of autism

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Know the signs and symptoms displayed by an individual with autism
  • Understand the role of formal diagnosis in managing autism
  • Understand the role of interventions in the management of autism

Unit 2: Understand best practice in the context of autism

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Understand own duty to safeguard individuals with autism
  • Understand approaches to supporting individuals with autism
  • Understand how communication and social interaction can be encouraged for individuals with autism

Unit 3: Legislation, guidance, information and support relevant to autism

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Understand legislation and guidance in the context of autism
  • Understand support available to individuals with autism and their families

Unit 4: Autism and behaviour

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Understand how to interpret behaviour displayed by an individual with autism
  • Understand how to proactively support positive behaviour in an individual with autism
  • Understand how to reactively support positive behaviour in an individual with autism

Unit 5: Living with autism in society

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Understand the role of the media in shaping perceptions of autism
  • Understand the role of resilience when coping with change
  • Understand barriers experienced by individuals with autism

How Do I Get Started?

Once you’ve chosen your course you can click ‘Start free course’ below. You will be taken immediately into the London South College Colleges online learning platform. Once you’ve added your details and confirmed your eligibility you will have access to your course. You can view your content and start preparing your first assignment.

Whilst you are doing this you will need to provide some more enrolment details to London South East Colleges, instructions will be given to help you. Once all your details have been provided you will receive a call from a learning support officer to verify your details. Once this step is complete, you will have full access to your online course!

  • Must have lived in the UK/EU/EEA for at least 3 years*

*EEA nationals will need to have obtained either pre settlement or settled status and provide evidence of this.


Receive an accredited NCFE CACHE or TQUK certificate

The certificate is a record of achievement and your reward for completing a nationally recognised qualification.
